The Church

The bronze altar rails and large candlesticks were designed by Randoll Blacking and made by W.Bainbridge Reynolds in 1927. The rails originally displayed eight cherubs heads, but regrettably seven of these were also stolen when the squatters entered the church in the early 1990s. This is the remaining one.

The baldachino over the altar. also by Blacking, is inscribed "Omnes qui de uno pane particpamus" which translates as "We all partake of the one bread" This too was formerly enlivened by cherubs, regrettably stolen, but an oil painting in the south east lobby shows its original form.
The fine cross and candlesticks usually on the altar, are a memorial to the Reverend Thomas Haliwell, and were a gift to the church in 1895. The rose bowls were given in memory of Spencer Gore Brown in 1933.
