Events in 2006
Saturday Dec 16th saw the highly successful Waterloo Street Winter Celebration
It was an evening for friends & neighbours to meet, greet & celebrate at this festive season.
The event included :
* Closing Waterloo Street to traffic at 3pm from Cross Street to Lower Market St
* Decorating street & balconies
* 5.30 pm onwards: free refreshments for children while decorating our tree
* Entertainment with Vic the one–man band & games
* Brighton City Singers choir members led us in carols & festive songs
* Refreshments for sale: Hey Pesto’s soup & mince pies
* Hot toddies & more from our locals: Iron Duke & Robin Hood
* Special seasonal readings & songs with Peter Knapp
* Song Scape: young people’s mostly R & B group

Special thanks to our sponsors: Brighton & Hove City Council (part of the ‘no car day’) & Waitrose, also Amarylis for the loan of the tree!
Thanks to our team: John the Van (inspiration & legwork), Toni Tye (co-ord), Arnie (elecs), Ellie & Jo
(carol sheets etc), Amanda Davidson (artwork) & support from other Friends of St Andrews & EBRA.
On the 2nd and 3rd August The Brighton and Hove (actually) Gay Mens' Chorus staged a highly successful production called: In The Mood to a full church on both nights. Guest of Honour was the Mayor, and we were entertained by Dame Margot Hamilton.

On Tuesday 1st August there was a presentation by Mark Peake (centre) of his generous cheque for £2,500 to Ellie Sampson, Chair of the Friends. Bert Hobden (right) has also raised and donated to the Friends an amazing total of £3,683. Together, this means we are able to have heating installed in the church.

July's Clotted Cream Tea Event

Once again the "dream team" carried off a highly sociable and scrumptious event. Peggy, Toni and Jo (above) prepared endless plates of clotted cream and strawberry jam scones, which had been baked to perfection by Peggy's friend Hazel. With Lee supplying a constant stream of teas and coffees from a steaming urn, the team raised £114 from an appreciative crowd, who had a preview of entertainment to come on 2nd and 3rd of August from the Brighton and Hove Gay Men's chorus (actually)!

Bert Hobden's Sponsored walk - Sunday 16th July
Bert completed his walk, under a gruelling hot sun, with the help of Mike Robins and Arnie Spence - who walked the whole way with him. Loads of others helped out, in particular Toni Tye who organised volunteers at strategic points, and who coordinated the event.
Thanks also to Lee Preisler, Jo Heard, Doug Richardson and Averil Older

The walk collected £506.14p and took over 5 hours due to the crowds on the seafront.
With money received from other sponsorship pledges I've banked £1230.20 for the Friends. Please send your donations to Chris Jones, 5 Waterloo St, Hove, BN3 1AQ
Remember it's to keep our beautiful church alive. Thanks for your support and,
WELL DONE BERT!!
Regards
Chris Jones (Secretary)
The money Bert raised will go towards the improvement of Church amenities, including heating and toilet facilities.
